White Sands National Monument is a treasure of the southwest. This gypsum dune field is unique to the country and is one of my favorite locations to photograph. On this particular morning, I couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The area had received quite a bit of rainfall previously and had left the dunes in an unusual condition, with long hard streaks of sand. I used these streaks as a foreground element on this morning and was awarded with a magnificent sunrise.
