A cold snap hit the prairie in mid February of 2021, plummeting to subzero temperatures. The temperature fell so suddenly that the remaining humidity in the air froze, and froze for days. The rim ice caused by the frost was unlike any I had ever seen out on the prairie, and, in fact, even in the far northern Arctic. In some places, crystalized ice was nearly 4 inches thick and coated everything. I couldn’t help but feel for the cattle ranchers in the area as I came up to this stock tank, which had completely frozen with a couple inches of ice.
